Tournament (f.k.a. Melvis Pepsi) is a band ready to defy your expectations about what emo sounds like. Hailing from Lansing, Michigan, the band’s eclectic and earwormy music is imbued with influences that span the gamut, from hardcore to ‘90s college rock and even alternative country. These influences can be heard expertly and authentically blended into a perfect, five-song boat emo EP called Maybe Next Year, Champ. While this is Tournament’s first official release, don’t fret—there’s much more to come from Dane, Billy, Maverick, and Kieffer.
